Trifolium incarnatum 500 g

Productcode: 932241
Incarnate clover (Trifolium incarnatum) is an annual, sometimes biennial plant from the butterfly flower family (Leguminosae). Incarnate clover occurs naturally in the Mediterranean: Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, the Balkan Peninsula and Turkey. Because of its use as animal feed, incarnate clover nowadays occurs everywhere as a neophyte.

The plant becomes 20-50 cm high. The hairy, upright stem is usually not branched. The alternating, spiral-shaped leaves are three-part. The hairy, inverted egg-shaped leaves are 1-2 cm long and 1-1.5 cm wide and have a sawn leaf margin. The petiole is 4.5-17.4 cm long, with the lower leaves having the longest petiole. The lower part of the supporting leaves form a leaf sheath grown with the stem. The upper non-grown part is egg-round, toothed, ribbed and hairy and has a green or purple color.

Inkarnate clover blooms from May to July with red or pink, sometimes yellowish-white flowers, which are in a terminal, 2-6 cm long and 1-1.5 cm wide, head-like cluster. When maturing, the inflorescence becomes longer and the flowering stalk thickens immediately below the inflorescence. The flower is fifty. The crown drawers are 10-12 mm long. The five sepals, long hairy sepals that grow into a chalice tube, are 8-10 mm long. The chalice is ten-veined with long, linear teeth. The chalice teeth are up to twice as long as the chalice tube.

The fruit is a single-legged, 2-2.5 cm long and 1-1.5 cm wide legume. The yellow-green, egg-shaped seed is approximately 2 mm in size. There are 310,000-330,000 seeds in a kilo of seeds.
